Novice or professional, we all use version control everyday. So whether it's during your first year of software development, or your 10th, letting curiosity get the better of you and opening up the .git/ folder to see what Git's doing in there feels like a rite of passage.

For me this curisoity didn't come until recently, 11 years after entering the tech industry. What I found was both enlightening, and admittedly pretty confusing at first. But after peeling back the layers, I found Git's core data model to be clever (and surprisingly straightforward).

So I published a blog post to provide a fun and interactive introduction to Git's underlying data model (the object database).

It's my first time writing an essay style blog with interactive demos, animations, and graphics. Gotta say, I'm proud of how it turned out.

Bonus cool thing

The Super Smash Bros Melee community effort to decompile the Gamecube game to native C was recently completed. This was a multi-year research and archival effort— show them some love on GitHub. Even if you're not into the game, the effort itself is interesting from an engineering standpoint.
